Review: Deep Ellum IPA

Updated: Mar 10, 2021

Deep Ellum Brewing Co

American IPA

ABV: 7%

"For an IPA to bear our hometown name, it better be potent. So we loaded it with our favorite American hops for a bitter punch. And with some over-the-top tropical fruit, citrus, pine and floral aromas and flavors, you’ve got one big Texas IPA, deserving of the Deep Ellum name."

This IPA poured a beautiful orange color that was slightly hazy. An off white head was quick to form and was thick. Solid retention on the head.

Deep Ellum certainly created a great smelling beer with this one. You get tropical notes, some grapefruit and a unique pine smell.

It feels light to medium bodied in the mouth and you get notes of pine right away with a nice finish of guava and citrus. Really well made beer here.

We enjoyed this IPA a lot more than we thought we would and it's the best "new to us" IPA that we've tried in a while. Give this one a go if you run across it!

Bayou Barley Score: 84
