Scotch Style Ale
ABV: 8.5%
IBU's: 50
"So good it’s almost wrong. Dark ruby in color and brewed with seven varieties of imported malts. Complex in finish, with hints of smoke and peat, paired with a malty richness and a right hook of hop power to give it the bad attitude that a beer named Dirty Bastard has to live up to. Ain’t for the wee lads. Brewed with 7 varieties of malt (varies over the years)."
This is our first Scotch Style Ale review and it lived up to expectations; which is no surprise because it is brewed by Founders. It poured dark amber with a thick and well-retaining tan head. On the nose you get a heavy malt smell with a unique smell of Scotch that just screams Scotch Ale. There is a distinct bitter taste that is very forthcoming upon tasting but in my opinion it fits the beer perfectly. It is very malty and earthy. You get some underlying coffee as well with a boozy finish. Like most Founders beer it has a heavy mouthfeel. The carbonation is medium.
This beer was distinct and different than what we've been drinking lately and very enjoyable. Founders hit the style right on the head with this one. Good beer very much worth the pickup with a very palatable price tag.
