Review: Lagunitas "Willetized" Coffee Stout

Lagunitas Brewing Company

Willetized Coffee Stout

ABV: 13.1% but varies by time of year.

"Our friends over at Kentucky’s own Willett Distillery have one kind of barrel: wood. And they put two things in them: Bourbon and Rye. We were fortunate enough to get some of their Rye barrels, and we put our Imperial Stout in them. It’s a chocolatey, coffee-y, smoky, Rye beast of a barrel-aged thing. Word."

As soon as you open this one you get smacked right in the face with the aroma of alcohol with hints of coffee.

It pours almost black with a very dense medium-khaki head that retains well.

The taste is much more balanced than the smell. Upon tasting you get notes of coffee with a smokey rye flavor following. It finishes smooth with notes of dark chocolate and oak. It feels nice and rich on the tongue.

This is a solid stout that's worth a try especially at its price tag. For a 13% beer this one is fairly cheap!

Bayou Barley Rating: 85
