Review: Mirror World's Febtoberfest Bier

One of our favorite beers from our favorite Oregon home-brew brewery.

SNL, Oktoberfest, and rock paper scissors. Those three totally unrelated things came together to create one of the most unique twists for a popular classic.

Mirror World originally brewed the first batch of Febtoberfest in 2011; this was also Mirrorworld's first brew (beginner's luck right?!) The name Febtoberfest originally stems from an old SNL sketch from the late 90s/ early 2000s. Michael, Jay, and Manny were watching a sketch when Darrell Hammond answered the question with "FEBTOBER!". Michael knew then that was one day going to be the name of a beer.

With a name out the way, the group just needed an actual beer to name. Here is where the story starts to heat up. Many in the homebrew community frown upon MR. BEER, but Jay's purchase of a Mr. Beer Oktoberfest kit is what spawned the original Febtoberfest.

The team had to think of a way to turn Oktoberfest into Febtoberfest. One idea was with chocolates and the other was with spices. These men decided to settle this the only sensible way possible: ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS. With the tried and true strategy of only using rock; Michael won rights to decide and chose spice to cope with brutal winters.

Now that you know the story of Febtoberfest. We want to highly recommend you order one when Mirror World has a batch ready! This Marzen clocks in a respectful 5.5% and is full to the cap with flavor. Just the right amount of spice will linger on your palate to add to the traditional Oktoberfest style flavoring notes.

Homebrewers are often overlooked, but Mirror World is no joke. They ship nationwide, please follow their Instagram.
