Review: New Belgium Sour IPA

New Belgium Brewing Co

American IPA

ABV: 7%

"A hazy fruit forward IPA with a refreshing flash of acidity and dry finish"

New Belgium is one of the heaviest hitters in the craft beer scene presently--especially when it comes to IPA's. They created a unique experience with their Sour IPA that combines their Hazy IPA with their Wood Cellar Sour.

The pour on this one is a hazy yellow-orange with a thick white head. Decent retention on the head.

On the nose you get fruity hops with a slight hint of tartness, perhaps from lemon.

As far as taste goes the tartness hits you right away which I appreciate because it stays true to the name. Directly following the tartness you start to get the juicy, citrusy, bitterness of an IPA. It all comes together incredibly well balanced and enjoyable.

We really enjoyed this IPA. It certainly wasn't traditional but that made it very enjoyable for us. Would drink this one again in a heartbeat.

Bayou Barley Score: 86
