Review: Orval Trappist Ale

Orval beer is a high fermentation beer. The ageing process adds a fruity note, which strikes a subtle balance between the beer’s full-bodied yet complex flavor and bitterness.

The legendary Orval Trappist Ale was originally brewed in 1931. The use of high quality ingredients blend together perfectly to create a beer that is renowned around the world.

We first tried this beer thanks to our local craft beer store, BinQ. Orval has one of the most beautiful copper pours we have ever seen. To top off the beautiful pour is an excellent thick but fluffy head. The aroma of this one is COMPLEX! There is an apparent bready-ness to it similar to a fresh biscuit. Then there are is the layers of fruitiness: blackberries, apricots, figs, plums. Just fruits from all over the place. The taste mirrors the aroma; there is a revolving door of different fruits and funky hoppy-ness. All of this happens while still being one of the most drinkable and refreshing beers out there.

Be warned you will either love this one or be turned off from its funk. But we LOVED it!
