Review: Sad Panda

A small family owned brewery from the heart of Colorado brews a special coffee stout while keeping an emphasis on sustainability.

"The rich, black-as-night color with the creamy, tan head tells you that the beer in your glass is a stout through and through. However, after you raise the glass to your nose, you will know that Sad Panda is something special. Aromas of vanilla and chocolate are prominent yet balanced with the malt sweetness and caramel aromas expected in stouts. Your first sip introduces the complex combination of flavors you might expect in your favorite coffee – the balanced sweetness of vanilla and dark chocolate flavors with a smooth coffee bitterness at the finish, this drinkable stout hits all of our sensory pleasure points. The sweet balanced finish invites another sip. Just one more."-H&D

It is not often we are lucky enough to stumble upon a beer ranked as high as Sad Panda is on Beer Advocate (26th for stouts), but it is certainly delectable each time. This was another beer from our Beer Drop box from Colorado. As always, we highly recommend investing in one of these beer drop boxes. You get amazing beers from family owned breweries. Sad panda pours out midnight black. The aromas from our glass bring to mind a scene of your favorite local coffee shop. This is not a thick stout, Sad Panda has a thin texture filled with flavors. There are notes of almond, chocolate, and of course COFFEE. Sad Panda was so good we plan to visit the brewery on our next Colorado trip!
